May 27, 2009 This week's "Liquid Assets" has a little bit of everything: some local flavor, a lovely white from Portugal and a value bottle of domestic pinot noir. Let's pull up a glass and get down to it. …Holly's Hill Vineyards 2006 El Dorado Patriarche (14.8 percent alcohol, $30): "Liquid Assets" tends to recommend wines that are half this price, but sometimes we believe in supporting the home team. You can read more (in the story above) about a recent adventure to Holly's Hill Vineyards in El Dorado County, but here's another rave about one of its wines. This Rhone-style blend, dominated by mourvedre and syrah, drinks especially lovely with its flavors of cherry and dark fruits. This wine can surely work at the dinner table, especially with some red meat coming off the grill, but we're also happy to just savor it in a glass.
