Liquid Assets, Chris Macias, Sacramento Bee

Not that we're sick of all the sauvignon blanc we drank this summer, but our palate is ready for something heartier. The change of seasons to fall means it's red wine weather, so here are three bottles available locally that'll keep your taste buds snug with warmth and flavor:

Nomad 2005 Red Wine…
Marietta Old Vine Red Lot Number 47…
Holly's Hill Vineyards 2006 El Dorado Classique Mourvedre…

This El Dorado County wine nabbed best of class in the Sierra foothills at the California State Fair commercial wine competition. The Bee's Mike Dunne also lauds this wine for its "brilliant light color, fresh berry smell and fresh berries on the palate, silken texture (and) complexity for the varietal." Pair this wine with something gamy – say, a nice lamb dish – and voila! it's like dining in your own French bistro…
