Wine Advice: Wine drinkers are starting to discover California's Sierra Foothills
Take a long weekend to explore seven wineries within a day's drive from Boise.

El Dorado County is characterized by steep and rough land covered with thick pine and fir forests. Here, you'll find many Northern Rhone varietals because of the soil and climatic conditions...

HOLLY'S HILL: You know you're in for a treat when the road narrows and almost becomes a dirt track. At the end of one such road is a delightful family winery called Holly's Hill that specializes in Rhone varietals.

Here, you'll find Rousanne, Viognier, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre. Be sure to try the Ed Wylie Fenaughty Reserve Syrah.

The winery has a nice deck behind the tasting room where you can enjoy a picnic lunch while admiring the views of the valley..."
